Memory Beta, the wiki for licensed Star Trek content.

The cockroach was an insect native to Earth, which commonly bred in unsanitary conditions, and was notoriously hard to eradicate.

Captain David Gold compared entrepreneur Rod Portlyn to a cockroach when the latter reemerged in 2377, several months after having been exposed for his unethical and amoral business practices. (CoE eBook: The Art of the Comeback)

Radroach in Fallout Tactics

Great American Cockroaches, colloquially called Radroaches or simply giant cockroaches, are giant versions of the original cockroach species mutated by atomic radiation.

Contents

General characteristics

Found mainly in underground areas and sewers across North America, these creatures can usually be found in fairly large groups. They feed on the dead, but will go after living creatures if isolated. Their numbers are usually their greatest advantage. Radroaches live mostly in the areas east of California.

It is said that radroach guts are actually useful in the treatment of radiation poisoning, and are widely used by tribals for that purpose.

Variations

Capital Wasteland

Radroaches in the Capital Wasteland look similar to real-life cockroaches. The mutations they have undergone include massively increased size, and now they are about as large as house cats.

Radroaches will attack, however, if the player seems to threaten them, either by having a weapon drawn, invading their territory, battling another enemy nearby (which is limited to less than a foot around the creature), or attacking them directly. Generally, they will spread their wings in warning when they're about to attack. Companions will attack them even when they don't attack or provoke the player.

Two named Radroaches appear in Fallout 3: Fluffy and Jitters.

Midwest

The following is based on Fallout Tactics and some details might contradict canon.

In the Midwest, Radroaches are a common sight in the wasteland. As in the Capital Wasteland, they can be encountered nearly everywhere, from old buildings to plains. However, they are drastically different and more dangerous than those met in the Capital Wasteland. They have a big, protected main body and small legs, and their saliva is incredibly toxic. They are very aggressive and attack every human unlucky enough to encounter them.

The Midwestern Radroaches are more varied than their Capital Wasteland cousins. Three variations are known:

Small Radroach

The weakest of the radroaches, they can easily be killed. However, their bites can poison an opponent, and when they are in large groups, they can kill even a prepared combatant. Small radroaches are nearly the same size as their relatives in the Capital Wasteland.

Large Radroach

Similar to their smaller cousins, they are, however, larger (being approximately the same weight as a human) and have an ability to spit their toxic saliva.

Roachor

Roachor is a unique mutant Radroach encountered by the Warrior of Midwestern Brotherhood of Steel. He is an "advanced" version of a large radroach, who lived in the Peoria facility. It appears Roachor was affected by the high amount of radiation coming from a strange production device which was used in manufacturing fission batteries. He is even bigger than any large radroach, being the same size as a car, his body glowing with a greenish radioactivity. His poison is even deadlier than that of Midwestern radroaches. However, the Warrior succeeds in killing him.

Appearances

Radroaches appear in Fallout 3 and Fallout Tactics and were to appear in Van Buren. They were also mentioned in Fallout Bible 1.

Notes

  • The Radroach, according to an Enclave Officer's Field Research Terminal, is indeed descended from average American cockroaches. Furthermore, it determines their scientific denomination to be Animalia, Arthropodia, Insecta, Blattodea, Blattidae, Periplaneta ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Periplaneta )
  • All Radroaches that appear in Fallout 3 are male. Apart from one pair of big appendages (so called cerci) they possess another pair of smaller appendages called styli that is characteristic for male cockroaches. (see Identification on http://bugguide.net/node/view/31622)
  • Most likely when you encounter a radroach there will usually be more than 3 in a close bundle

Bugs

  • In a rare case, they have been found to be non-hostile, or show up on your radar as a green bar rather than red. This has been seen in a few subway tunnels. It seems that they are usually friendly if they are skittering towards a set waypoint. Although they will not target the player, in a few metro tunnels the 'friendly' radroaches will target feral ghouls, often killing them. (Confirmed PS3,Xbox 360,PC)

Runescape

From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape

Cockroaches are monsters that inhabit the Stronghold of Player Safety's underground dungeon. It should be noted that they have a high defence level for their combat level, but also drops that don't come from many other monsters in their levels. For this reason, they are often hunted for their drops and training at the same time. All cockroaches are located in a multicombat area. They come in three different types:

A Cockroach soldier, the toughest of the three.

Cockroaches could also be found in the tunnels near the Easter Egg Factory during the Splitting Heirs quest. They were unattackable.

Nemeir was a female Ankura Gungan native to Alsakan, where she was the priestess at a Gungan temple. Following the temple's destruction by a local Separatist uprising, she returned to a previous vocation as a bounty hunter, using the alias "Cockroach."

She wed Odogoth. Together they led the Alsakan Gungans to found the New Temple colony on Wabagunga. They became active members of Mama's Resistance, and took a mission to Coruscant, where Nemeir single-handedly gunned down an entire squadron of stormtroopers.
