Human-Covenant War

UNSC Marine Corps

The SP42 Cobra is a Human Anti-Vehicle/Fortification system in use by the UNSC Marine Corps.[1]

A pair of Cobra artillery shelling an enemy position

Unlike many vehicles, the Cobra fills two distinct roles, that of a mobile Anti-Vehicle platform, and of a self-propelled artillery piece. It features armored panels that are designed to deflect hardened projectiles and absorb massive amounts of damage from explosive shells. Although it is not fast, the Cobra is still highly maneuverable, and can keep up with combat groups.

The SP42 Cobra is equipped with a pair of 16 MJ LRG Rail Guns on its turret that fire a high-density ferrous slug designed to penetrate enemy armor using sheer kinetic energy. It has a slow rate of fire, however. It also fires a projectile twice the size of an M68 Gauss Cannon slug. The rail guns fire intermittently, not in a single burst, as the energy required to accelerate the slug to the speeds required to pierce the heaviest armor can only be managed for one of the cannons at a time. Synchronized fire from both Gauss Cannons will destroy even the most heavily armored tank, with penetration that easily out-guns the standard 90mm gun of the M808B "Scorpion" MBT.

In addition to the Cobra's anti-vehicle role, the Marine tank crews can stabilize the vehicle into the ground, "locking it down", and deploy an arcing-trajectory 8 MJ LRG Rail Gun which fires a conventional explosive shell at supersonic velocities. Both the explosive and kinetic force of the shell complement each other to increase the damage inflicted.[1] When fully upgraded with the 'Piercing Shot' upgrade, one shot on the Normal difficulty has enough power to penetrate the shield mounted on a Locust and destroy it, while one shot can disable the shield on an upgraded Wraith and deal minor damage. In addition, the Cobra, when commandeered by Spartans and after acquiring about 15 stars, is capable of destroying a Scarab in just two shots. It sacrifices mobility for the range that elevating the heavy weapon can offer. The shells used are multipurpose, and can be adapted to eliminate anything from a formation of Covenant Wraiths to an enemy fortification or firebase, though its use against groups of infantry may be less effective if they are spread apart due to its small blast radius. Cobras can attack only ground units and are specifically designed to engage vehicles, so they are mostly vulnerable to Hunters and Banshees.

  • Deflection Plating: gives the Cobra extra protection. Cost 400 resources.
  • Piercing Shot: upgrades to railgun that can penetrate multiple targets, damaging each. Cost 900 resources.

Tips for using the Cobra

  • Lock them down, they are much stronger when in a stationary position.
  • Don't use one, multiple Cobras near each other can prove an impassible area.
  • On larger maps, lock them down near the teammate's base closest to the enemy, they can protect your ally while he/she builds up their army.
  • On Terminal Moraine, lock down a pair of cobras with some infantry in a sniper tower to have a well protected base.
  • Have two or three cobras flank an enemy, then lock them down close enough to hit their base, but far enough to be unseen.
  • Cobras and Cyclopses make a good couple, have one Cyclops upgraded for repairs near a Cobra, it can repair the Cobra while it takes a shot
  • Place them in a semi circle or a line at a choke point to provide you with an easily defended route.
  • On the level Glacial Ravine, put infantry in the two shield walls in the middle of the map, then make a line of locked-down Cobras, along with some wolverines to back them up, then you have an impassible route. Getting over them? Simple. Just build air units, or transport your infantry over the walls via Pelicans.

A formation of Cobra's in artillery mode, protecting a UNSC Firebase on Labyrinth.
  • A light tank in Halogen, a fan-made mod of Command and Conquer: Generals, also an RTS which was shut down by Microsoft, was also called the Cobra.
  • The vehicle was earlier described as being similar to a Russian 'Katyusha' Rocket artillery vehicle, which was spurred on by the appearance of vehicles similar to the Wolverine but possessing a different ordnance rack. This was a case of mistaken identity, as the vehicle sighted was an actual Wolverine, but with an upgrade adding a second missile pod, creating confusion.
  • The Cobra's artillery mode has an uncanny resemblance to the Terran siege tank from Starcraft, which could transform from Tank Mode to Siege Mode, with a sacrifice to mobility for longer range and greater firepower.
  • The Cobra is best used like a turret to hold key areas.
  • The Cobra is more akin to a Tank Destroyer, as it's intended role is to knock out enemy armored vehicles at long range with a large caliber or high velocity cannon; but is lightly armored compared to the main battle tanks it is designed to destroy and is vulnerable to heavily-armed infantry as it lacks any anti-infantry weapons.

Mr. LaShade, portrayed by Billy Dee Williams, is a main character on the hit television show Exposé. LaShade is a "suave, smooth-talking nightclub owner" under whose tutelage strippers-turned-crimefighters Crystal and Autumn fight evildoers.

In the final episode of the show's fourth season, Corvette, a third heroine guest star portrayed by Nikki Fernandez, discovers that Mr. LaShade is also the Cobra, Exposé's main villain. It is this discovery that leads to the death of Nikki's character on-screen. Mr. LaShade leads Crystal and Autumn to believe that Corvette was working for the Cobra when they come in to find her dead.

  • Hurley describes Mr. Lashade as a "suave, smooth-talking club owner".
  • After discovering the episode's script among Nikki's things, Hurley is shocked to learn about Mr. LaShade's deceit and true identity as the Cobra. He describes the Cobra as "this big bad guy" whose identity "has been shrouded in mystery for four seasons".

  • Mr. LaShade is portrayed both on-screen and off-screen by Billy Dee Williams. After their scene is over, Nikki talks to the now out-of-character actor, calling him "Billy Dee".
  • Billy Dee Williams played the part of "Billy Diamond", a jewel thief similarly forced to work undercover for police in the television series Double Dare.

The Cobra was a ship that belonged to Lando Calrissian. Calrissian had many stories of how he acquired the ship and wasn't sure which one he liked the best.[1]

The Cobra.

The vessel was a modified Mu-class Model 2 shuttle originally manufactured by Sienar Fleet Systems.

In 1 ABY, Calrissian used it as part of his wager to Baron Administrator Dominic Raynor in a sabacc game, losing the Cobra in a game rigged by Barpotomous Drebble, but then later winning it back. Calrissian flew the ship off of Bespin while faking his own death in order to uncover a plot to assassinate him. Nearly 3 years later, Calrissian and Chewbacca flew the Cobra to Arcan IV during their search for Han Solo after the smuggler was captured by Boba Fett on Cloud City.

Shortly after the Battle of Endor, Calrissian used the Cobra on diplomatic missions to Drogheda and Keyorin. He later met up with Solo and Chewbacca on Kashyyyk, during one of the earliest incidents of the Nagai-Tof War. After the heroes crushed the slaving operation led by Nagai commander Ozrei "Knife" N'takkilomandrife, the Nagai stole the Cobra and fled. The ship was later recovered after Knife was captured on Kabray.

Calrissian flew the Cobra as Gold Leader during the Second Battle of Endor, the first major engagement of the Nagai-Tof War. Trips to Iskalon and Zeltros soon followed, both coinciding with conflicts with the Nagai.

From Teletraan I: The Transformers Wiki

Cobra is a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world!

Led by Cobra Commander, they've had their ups and downs in their struggle against the G.I. Joe team.

They sometimes team up with or rebuild Transformers.

Cartoon continuity

By the year 2006, Cobra's one-time leader was a homeless vagrant, selling the use of his organization's synthoid technology to small-time mobsters.

While nothing is stated outright, it appears that the threat of mighty Cobra is now but a memory. Only Human

Binaltech (Japan-only)

Earlier, in 2004, Garrison Kreiger, a former financial backer of Cobra and enemy of G.I. Joe's Sgt. Savage, served as a member of the nefarious Concurrence.

Among the other members of the Concurrence was Count von Rani, who himself clashed with Sgt. Savage as Iron Klaw, but who otherwise has no known connection to Cobra.

Marvel Comics continuity

G.I. Joe And The Transformers

Cobra manipulated Senator Barbara Larkin, using her to push through the development of Power Station Alpha so that they could then steal it for their own purposes. Things went awry when the Decepticons decided they wanted it for their own, but an alliance was soon formed... and broken, when Cobra learned the Decepticons planned to use Alpha to destroy the world.

Operatives involved in this mission included Baroness, Buzzer, Cobra Commander, Destro, Dr. Mindbender, Serpentor, Torch, Ripper, Zarana, and Zartan.

G.I. Joe Starring Snake-Eyes and the Transformers

In the midst of a scheme by Cobra Commander to bring new glory to his organization, the reconfigurable Silent Castle he had seized from Destro was put into a state of constant metamorphosis. This caught the attention of a heavily-damaged Megatron, who flew to Trans-Carpathia from Canada and was enraged to discover a non-sentient piece of architecture instead of another Transformer.

This confrontation eventually led to an agreement between Megatron and Cobra whereby Megatron would receive a new, more powerful body (designed by Dr. Biggles-Jones) in exchange for the technologies of the downed-but-functional Autobot Ark.

"I just want some pants. A DECENT PAIR OF PANTS!"

Cobra helicopters led Megatron and the unearthed Ark from Canada to the Cobra-controlled town of Millville, New York, where its brainwashed denizens began to unload the spacecraft. Their operation was discovered by the G.I. Joe team, who Megatron was vocally uninterested in battling.

Not too long afterwards, a group of Autobots (Brawn, Chase, Hot Spot, Override, Skydive, and Steeljaw) arrived and battled Megatron in Millville, causing considerable damage to Cobra's property holdings and destroying any vestiges of the town's use as a secret base.

As the situation continued to degrade, Cobra Commander ordered an evacuation of the town's assets and personnel from a position near the Ark. Megatron then arrived, and having captured Dr. Biggles-Jones, abruptly disregarded his previous agreement with Cobra Commander. He took the Ark for himself and blasted off, much to Cobra Commander's extreme annoyance.

In-transit, Megatron voiced that he had transferred a virus that had been implanted in his new body by Dr. Biggles-Jones to the Cybertronian technology in Cobra's possession, which would render it inoperable.

Operatives involved in this mission included Cobra Commander, Dice, Dr. Mindbender, Road Pig, Slice, and Zarana.

Transformers Generation 2

Following Megatron's departure in the Ark, a convoy of Cobra vehicles departed Millville, safeguarding a transport containing the (unknowingly infected) Cybertronian technology they had acquired.

Wait, that was a Paralyzer a minute ago.

The convoy was assaulted by Autobot Hot Spot, who feared the havoc that could be created by the alien technology in Cobra's hands. As Cobra soldiers prepared to retaliate against him, they were cut down by Snake-Eyes and General Hawk, which gave Hot Spot the opportunity to destroy the transport.

Surrounded and heavily damaged, Hot Spot destroyed himself rather than be captured and dissected by Cobra's technicians for knowledge.

Operatives involved in this mission included Cobra Commander.

Dreamwave comics continuity

Transformers/G.I. Joe

In 1938, Major Sebastian Bludd discovered Megatron and his Decepticons in a shrine in the Fera Islands. Soon Megatron allied himself with Bludd's master, Cobra Commander, and they joined forces to conquer Europe. Even the mighty Maginot Line could not stop them as they rolled through Berlin, Paris, and Rome and enslaving their inhabitants. Before long, the Decepticon/Cobra onslaught reached Great Britain.

However, treachery from Destro, the Baroness, and Starscream led the newly-formed G.I. Joe team to their Terrordrome. While engaging Cobra troops commanded by Storm Shadow, the Joes encountered the Autobots, who soon repaired and revived themselves. The Joes soon found themselves under fire from a squadron of Rattlers and Seekers led by Wild Weasel, but they were driven back by Lady Jaye and the Aerialbots.

As this transpired, Megatron attempted to dispose of his insufficiently-efficient human partners, but was humbled by a Matrix-bearing Cobra Commander.

While the Cobra aircraft were driven off, they left behind paratroopers and Rumble. The Joes managed to defeat the troops, and Bumblebee and Scarlett destroyed Rumble, but Zartan managed to murder and replace Breaker in the confusion. He was quickly discovered, but not before he allowed Soundwave to capture Flint.

Storm Shadow left the main Cobra force to engage in a deadly duel with his sword-brother Snake-Eyes, now a member of G.I. Joe. Despite the intervention of Ravage, Snake-Eyes defeated Storm Shadow, who was then eaten by a shark.

Soon, Cobra prepared to defend the town of Torhavn against the approoaching Autobots and Joes, using slaves as human shields. Another Cobra air attack was foiled by Lady Jaye and Superion, leading to the death of Wild Weasel, and Lady Jaye defeated Bludd and the Dreadnoks. Meanwhile, a small Joe strikeforce infiltrated the Terrordrome, destroying Frenzy in the process.

As the Joes, Autobots, and an Allied fleet neared, Shockwave destroyed Superion and a number of ships, damaging himself severely in the process. But despite heavy losses, the Autobots soldiered on.

Destro and the Baroness took advantage of the chaos to unleash their monstrous creation Bruticus upon both sides - but not before slaying their co-conspirator, Starscream. Bruticus' attack crippled Cobra Commander, allowing the Baroness to execute him with Megatron's pistol form. Her victory was short-lived - before the Commander's body could cool, she and Destro were arrested by Scarlett and Snake-Eyes. As the metal monster tore through the Autobots, Snake-Eyes took the Matrix from the Commander's corpse and destroyed it, killing the Autobots, Decepticons, and Bruticus and ending the threat of Cobra.

Operatives involved in this mission included Baroness, Buzzer, Cobra Commander, Destro, Dr. Mindbender, Major Bludd, Ripper, Storm Shadow, Torch, Wild Weasel, and Zartan.

Transformers/G.I. Joe: Divided Front

Some 45 years after the conquest of Europe, Cobra rose again. Under the command of Cobra Commander, Cobra established extensive operations in the United States. In 1985, G.I. Joe attacked a Cobra shipping facility commanded by Destro. While the facility was largely destroyed, Destro and Scrap-Iron managed to escape via Trouble Bubble. Soon afterwards, Cobra detected the crash of an Autobot shuttlecraft near Portland. Their retrieval force was repelled by a team of G.I. Joe rookies.

Operatives involved in this mission included Cobra Commander, Destro, Scrap-Iron, and Smith.

[Note: As Dreamwave went bankrupt after only one issue of this series was published, it is unknown whether Cobra Commander and Destro are in any way related to their 1930s counterparts.]

Devil's Due comics continuity

G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers

The fledgling terrorist organization Cobra discovered the Ark and its Transformer crew in stasis lock, and took them to their headquarters on Cobra Island. With the help of mad scientist Dr. Mindbender and weapons dealer Destro, they turned most of the Transformers into remote-controlled war machines - with the exception of Megatron, who was kept by Cobra Commander as a trophy, locked in pistol mode. They were used to strike at a United Nations summit in Washington, D.C., causing mass panic.

Despite problems reprogramming some units (especially Optimus Prime), Cobra launched an attack on the SPS Research Facility. While several of Cobra's Transformers were destroyed in the attack, thanks to the intervention of the newly-formed G.I. Joe as well as two escaped Autobots, Bumblebee and Wheeljack, Firefly managed to acquire the satellite technology and destroy the facility. Their success was short-lived, however, as Cobra's Transformers overrode their programming en masse and rebelled against their masters. Cobra Commander was forced to unleash Megatron to battle Optimus Prime as he attempted to flee. As Cobra troops were slain left and right, the Commander and several other oficers managed to secure S.N.A.K.E. suits and fight their way through the vengeful mechanoids.

Meanwhile, Megatron and Soundwave had taken control of Cobra headquarters and used the stolen satellite technology to begin producing energon cubes. The Autobots and Joes took the command centre and incapacitated Megatron, but were then alerted to an American nuclear missile headed straight for them. Enlisting the help of Mindbender, the Joes managed to shoot the nuke down with the SPS, with the side-effect of the satellite showering the island with deadly heat-blasts. After the blasts incapacitated most of the Decepticons, Optimus Prime managed to shoot down the satellite and defeat Megatron. Destro, Mindbender, and the Baroness escaped, and Cobra Commander fled with the aid of Starscream.

Operatives involved in this mission included Baroness, Cobra Commander, Destro, Dr. Mindbender, Firefly, Major Bludd, Storm Shadow, and Zartan.

G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers II

Over the next two years, Cobra rebuilt itself. G.I. Joe continued to bedevil them, breaking up a weapons-smuggling ring and capturing the cyborgified Dreadnoks. Eventually, Cobra hatched a plan to gain access to Teletran 3, a computer that would give Cobra access to Cybertron's space bridge network, allowing for instantaneous troop and supply movements. G.I. Joe agent Chuckles discovered the plan, and led the team to Cobra's Boston headquarters. As the Joes attacked, they disrupted the gate, first sending the Joes, Cobras, and Starscream to Cybertron, and then scattering a number of Transformers throughout time. The time disruption threatened to destroy Earth, forcing Cobra to team up with G.I. Joe to retrieve the missing mechanoids.

Zartan, Storm Shadow, Lady Jaye, and Snake-Eyes were successful in retrieving Jazz, Bumblebee, Hot Rod, and Blitzwing from the 1970s, and the Baroness, Percy, Roadblock, and Beach-Head barely managed to retrieve Optimus Prime and the Stunticons from 1930s Chicago. Meanwhile, Tomax, Xamot, Mindbender, Barbecue, and Spirit found themselves in a nightmarish Decepticon-ruled future Earth. They were forced to take Ratchet back to the present against his will, and both he and Xamot were slain by Shockwave as soon as they returned to Cybertron. The Autobots were taken captive by Shockwave's Decepticons, the time gate was deactivated, and the Joes and Cobras were forced to flee. All seemed lost until Lady Jaye and Roadblock infiltrated the control center and reactivated the time gate, bringing Dusty, Shipwreck, Gung Ho, and a Viper back - along with the fearsome Dinobots. The Dinobots routed Shockwave's forces, giving Joes and Cobras a safe passage home.

Meanwhile Dr. Mindbender, who had been left on Earth, was arrested, but soon found himself enlisted to harness the power of Unicron by the enigmatic forces of Cobra-La!

Operatives involved in this mission included Baroness, Buzzer, Cobra Commander, Destro, Dr. Mindbender, Percy, Ripper, Storm Shadow, Tomax, Torch, Xamot, and Zartan.

G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers: The Art of War

While attacking Area 52 with the monstrous Cobratron, Cobra Commander infiltrated the base and activated the deadly Serpent O.R. in the hopes of controlling the powerful humanoid, only to have him escape to Cybertron and reunite the shattered Decepticon forces. Cobra Commander managed to briefly take mental control of Serpent O.R., but was rendered catatonic when he was exposed to the energies of the Matrix of Leadership.

Operatives involved in this mission included Baroness, Cobra Commander, Doctor Knox, Zarana, and Zartan.

G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers: Black Horizon

By the arrival of Unicron, a number of Cobra operatives had been captured by G.I. Joe, including Darklon, Overlord, Tomax. The Baroness, Destro, Dr. Mindbender, Firefly, Iron Klaw, and Zartan remained at large.
