"Like fire across the galaxy, the Clone Wars spread."

"Chapter 1" is the first episode of the Star Wars: Clone Wars animated television series, and the first episode in Season 1 and Volume I. Written by Darrick Bachman and Bryan Andrews and directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, the episode originally aired on Cartoon Network on November 7, 2003. It served as the pilot episode to the series.

A voiceover from Yoda explains that the Clone Wars are spreading across the galaxy. Montages show Count Dooku allying with the Quarren Isolation League; Saesee Tiin leading a starfighter squadron in a strafing run against a battle droid army; Mace Windu fighting super battle droids; clone troopers fighting on Ilum; Barriss Offee and Luminara Unduli fighting together; and finally Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi leaping into battle.

The scene then cuts to Yoda, Anakin, and Obi-Wan in Palpatine's office. Obi-Wan informs the Supreme Chancellor that the Jedi have discovered that the InterGalactic Banking Clan has established battle droid factories on Muunilinst, and says that they must act quickly. Palpatine agrees, but wonders who to send; Yoda suggests that Obi-Wan lead his army to Muunilinst, and both Obi-Wan and Palpatine agree. Palpatine suggests that Anakin, in light of his piloting skills, be given special command of Obi-Wan's fighter groups; Obi-Wan initially speaks against it, then—on Palpatine's immediate pushing—reluctantly agrees.

Later, Obi-Wan watches his clone troopers board their assault ships, and wonders what his former master Qui-Gon would have thought of the Clone Wars. Anakin, meanwhile, enters his modified Jedi starfighter, and prepares to make the jump to hyperspace. But before he leaves he says goodbye to his secret wife Padmé and her droid C-3PO
