Citation was a famed racehorse who won the Triple Crown in the 20th century.

In 2296, while being held by Romulan soldiers on planet Obsidian, Leonard McCoy spoke at length about the sport of horse racing in order to forestall his execution, and claimed Citation was a great war beast named for the high military honor. (TOS novel: Vulcan's Forge)
