Cid (シド Shido) is a character from Final Fantasy II. He is the first character from the series to bear this name (Cid of the Lufaine was only introduced in the Dawn of Souls remake of the original Final Fantasy), starting a tradition to name a character Cid in every subsequent Final Fantasy game.
Originally, Cid served as a white knight of Fynn, but he gave up that life for his airship. He offers flights on his ship out of the town of Poft, and on several occasions offers aid to Firion and his allies. He is fatally injured in the Emperor's Cyclone. He summons Firion to his bedside, and gives him the Airship, telling him that he will need it to enter Palamecia Castle to stop Leon. He then dies, and ends up in Machanon with other people who have died fighting the Empire. Cid helps those who escape the monsters in the cavern to set up a small town. When Minwu and the others arrive, he promises to help them on their quest.
