The Chin'toka system is a star system located inside Cardassian space, near the Federation border.

The system contains at least four planets, two of which -- Chin'toka II and Chin'toka III -- are inhabited. During the Dominion War, the system was the location of two major engagements between the Federation Alliance and the Dominion-Cardassian alliance. (DS9 episodes: "Tears of the Prophets"; "The Siege of AR-558"; "The Changing Face of Evil").

In late 2374, Starfleet salvaged a Jem'Hadar ship crashed on one of Chin'toka's planets. P8 Blue was a member of the Starfleet Corps of Engineers team to investigate the ship. (SCE eBook: War Stories, Book Two)

The RPG The Dominion War Sourcebook: The Fires of Armageddon, published by Last Unicorn Games after they had lost their Star Trek licence, states that the system has a K2IV star, at least twelve planets, an Oort cloud and Kuiper belt.

It also states that prior to the first engagement between the Federation Alliance and the Dominion alliance, the system contained many orbital manufacturing facilities and Tokara Nor.

The Chin'toka system was a system located within the Cardassian Union. The system contained at least four planets, with two of them M Class. It was the site of two major battles during the Dominion War.

In 2374 the system was invaded by the Federation Alliance due to the small number of vessels left to defend the system. However Orbital weapon platforms had been deployed within the system to bolster its defences. Despite the activation of these weapons the system fell to the Alliance. (DS9: "Tears of the Prophets"; Star Trek: Swiftfire: "Into the Fire")

The Dominion launched several counterattacks against the Alliance forces in the system, effectively bottling them up in the system and turning it into a vast battlefield. In one attack where the Romulans bore the brunt they lost over three dozen warships and 10,000 personnel. (LUG RPG: The Dominion War Sourcebook: The Fires of Armageddon)

The Alliance would hold the system for nearly a year before losing their foothold in Cardassian territory. The inclusion of the Breen into the Dominion saw the use of the Breen energy dampening weapon that resulted in 311 Allied ships destroyed during the Second Battle of Chin'toka. (DS9: "The Changing Face of Evil")

Alternate timelines

Star Trek: Pendragon

In 2374, the Chin'toka system was the site of Gul Dukat's last stand against the forces of Chancellor Gowron and General Martok. The remnants of the Cardassian Central Command and its fleet gathered at Chin'toka, and were almost completely slaughtered by the Klingons. Dukat disappeared in the aftermath, while Akellen Macet led the survivors to safety. (PDN: "Exile", "The Distant Fire")
