The Chameleons were an advanced humanoid race. An explosion on their home planet resulted in the loss of their faces and their identities. To save their race from dying out, their scientists developed a process that would allow them to assume the identities of other beings. They went to Earth and established Chameleon Tours at Gatwick Airport as a front for abducting young Humans to their space station. By July 1966 they had acquired 50,000 people, but before they could return to their world they were exposed by the Doctor, who offers to help them find another solution to their problem in exchange for releasing the humans. After the Chameleons left Earth, they passed Krennos shortly afterwards and decided to kidnap and impersonate its humanoid visitors. After taking their place, the transformed Chameleons would return to their victims' homes for a while to avert suspicion from Krennos, then return to the Chameleon's home world. The Doctor discovered their plan and put a stop to it. (ST: Face Value)
In addition to their spacecraft and space station, the Chameleons also had electric guns, laser cannons, and paralysing devices. The process used to assume the identities of Humans involved the use of armband-like devices placed on both subjects. If an armband was removed from the original, the Chameleon that assumed their identity would be killed, reduced to a small blob of protoplasm. The abducted Humans were miniaturised and placed in suspended animation.

The Chameleon is a pet a player may have with level 90 Summoning. Chameleon eggs can be found on Cairn Isle, west of Shilo Village; picking up an egg requires 90 summoning. Take the egg to an incubator in the pet shop in Yanille or Taverley. Chameleons eat flies, which can be purchased in a pet shop.
Unlike other pets with multiple colours the Chameleon changes to one of ten colours based on its environment. The default colour is green. It will change to brown on dirt, grey on stone, beige on sand, white on snow, blue in Zanaris, pale green in some areas of Morytania, black with red in TzHaar, orange in the Party Room and yellow with pink in Player-owned houses. While in a Menagerie, in a POH, the chameleon will turn into different colours randomly.
Party Pete received a pet Chameleon named Karma for Christmas, and can currently be seen in the party room.

Chameleon isn't much of a warrior, but he is a pretty goods spy. He is fairly clever, plus he has the ability to blend into his surroundings, rendering himself practically invisible to normal visual sensors. Sadly, this doesn't work against other forms of detection, like heat vision.
He transforms into a Cybertronic open-topped hover-car.
Chameleon was investigating the potential alliance between the Decepticons in Tyrest and an unknown alien force, but was captured in the process. He was sent to fight for his life in the Jekka Amphitheater against the multi-armed alien Hooligan, and lost. When his remains were found by an Autobot patrol, Ultra Magnus, Fizzle, Sizzle and Guzzle went to investigate his death, uncovering the death-sport-fueled alliance between the Decepticon Firecons and the alien Zabra.
