History

An extraordinarily focussed woman, ruthlessly dedicated to her goals, Celia Kazantzakis will destroy anyone who stands in her way. Her desire for revenge is fuelled largely by the death of her former lover, Lorenzo Rossetti, who was ordered killed by his own criminal family. Over the years, she built up a network of criminals around herself, including the Tracker (her son Nicholas), Suicide King, Mr Fun, Bugg, Freeway, Dr Excess and the Technician. As a rule, these would be spread around the globe on different missions, but when the time came to exact her revenge on the Rossettis, they all converged on Gotham City, where the family operated.

Athena led the Network against the Rossetti family, but early in the campaign, her son Nicholas fell to his death. Blaming

Batman for this, she also ensured that the Network would battle the Caped Crusader and his 'family' of allies. At the same time, she attempted a hostile takeover of Wayne Enterprises, whose leader Bruce is the son of her childhood friend Martha Kane - this was part of a plan to destroy Gotham City's economy, still shaky after the No Man's Land period. Despite her best efforts, and her willingness to dispose of any of her operatives, Batman and his own network of allies were able to thwart her plans. Athena escaped, and has not yet been heard from again, though some of her operatives took sides during a large gang war in the city some months after these events.
