The following is based on Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel and has not been confirmed by canon sources.

Carbon crater is a giant hole in earth near the town of Carbon. It is filled with ruins of building and cars, as half of the pre-war Carbon ended up there. The crater is a place of many points of interest. Firstly, before the war a large facility specialized in hazardous materials was located here. Lots of drums and pipes with radioactive goo, as well as Carbon warehouse are all left from this facility. Also, some mining took place here, although it's unknown what kind of mineral resources were being extracted. The crater consists of upper level, lower level, and the pit.

After the war, some people from Carbon found a skeleton in the bottom of the pit. It is believed that this skeleton is not only of pre-war origin, but actually belongs to a dinosaur, a creature that lived a long time before humanity. This place is decorated by a circle of cars, half-dug into the ground.

Due to a high amount of radiation, the crater gave birth to some unpleasant sub-species of radscorpions. This includes glowing, radioactive ones, the ones that could spit poison and the most dangerous of them, gigantic scorpions which are nearly the same size as a bus. Now these critters live all around the crater along with some radbugs and giant rats.

The crater collapsed when the fight between the Initiate from the Brotherhood of Steel and the mayor of Carbon, Richard, happened in the pit. Lots of explosives were used, and when the Initiate make his way out from the crater, it becomes unavailable to be visited again.

  • Rumor is that the last known living cat in America, Mr. Pussy, died in here. Ruby the prostitute wanted to find him when he got lost, and asked the Initiate to help. He discovered the cat's corpse and brought it back to Ruby.
  • The unknown facility that once stood there may be in fact a Vault-Tec installation.

Appearances in games

The Carbon crater appears only in Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel.
