Type: | Survey cruiser |
The Byrd-class galactic survey cruiser (also called exploratory cruiser) was a type of starship on active duty in Starfleet during at least the late 23rd and early 24th centuries. (Task Force Games: Star Fleet Battles)
Byrds were intended for long-range research and reconnaissance missions into uncharted regions. The class had more labs and shuttles than the cruisers, and in addition, had considerable cargo storage space.
This class is a variant of the Constitution-class hull design.
