Rumors

Just in case someone else wants to recreate this page, I thought I'd park the info here. Today, a hansful of websites, primarily blogs, have been circulating rumors that Britney Spears will appear on Sesame Street next season. It's not entirely impossible, but as it stands, the sources are dubious: mostly blogs, and the closest to an original source I could find is The Daily Star, a British tabloid specializing in scandal and such. The article there is vague and clearly intended to titillate. A more detailed article followed on another tabloid website Metro Online- more detailed, but just as vague and poorly sourced. Even the claims use language such as "The rehabber is set to sing a dumbed-down version of her number one hit..." and "the track's lyrics will reportedly be altered." The whole thing sounds highly suspicious (in a comment on the Daily Star piece, someone claims Sesame Workshop has already denied it), so unless Sesame Workshop issues a press release acknowledging this as fact, this should remain deleted. And I'd highly encourage anyone who comes across rumors about next season, especially celebrities, to either wait, or bring the subject up, and the sources, on current events or other talk pages first. The best proof is either a) confirmation from Sesame Workshop or an equally reliable source (New York Times, Time, etc.) or b) a publicity image of said celebrity with a Muppet on a set. See also Talk:Kevin James for a similar situation. -- Andrew Leal (talk) 01:22, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

I've sent emails off to Sesame Workshop's three contacts, individually, as a reporter for Wikinews, asking for a confirmation or denial. -- Zanimum 17:45, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Ray Hammerman of Sesame Workshop just sent me a reply, denying the rumor as just that. -- Zanimum 18:04, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
As did Ellen Lewis, Vice President, Corporate Communications. Here's the Wikinews story. -- Zanimum 19:05, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
