Bernard Butler was Elsie Tanner's nephew, and was briefly a resident of Coronation Street in late 1969, early 1970.

Biography

Bernard showed up in Weatherfield hot on the heels of his younger sister Sandra, and the pair were allowed to stay at 11 Coronation Street by their aunt Elsie Tanner. Elsie also got him and Sandra jobs at Alan Howard's salon, where Elsie worked as manageress. In 1970, Alan unfairly sacked Bernard, and the staff walked out in protest. Bernard thought about starting up a rival business, but was persuaded to return.

Bernard was protective of Sandra despite not seeming like much of a threat. When Sandra's fiance Ray Langton was seen kissing Audrey Fleming, Bernard knocked him to the floor in the Rovers.

Accident prone Bernard fell for married Irma Barlow while she was visiting from Australia. She returned to town permanently when her husband and son were killed in a car crash. Bernard had a crush on her but she was more interested in bookie Dave Smith, much to Bernard's dismay. He made a few clumsy advances but he wasn't her type and when he was rebuffed he took a job back home in Saddleworth.

Quotes
