From TARDIS Index File, the free Doctor Who reference.

Alcohol results from the action of yeast on sugar. The yeast converts sugar into ethanol; which, as it was inhospitable to bacteria, would retard spoilage. It has been drunk, used, seen, and even occasionally manufactured by the Doctor, companions, and others.

Adventurer archaeologist Bernice Summerfield (who travelled with the Doctor for some time) greatly appreciated alcoholic beverages.

Beer is an alcoholic beverage produced by fermented starches. It is one of the oldest, alcoholic beverages known on Earth, having been brewed for thousands of years. It is most often made from malted barley, hops, yeast and water, and is usually carbonated.

Beer is an addictive drink of ethanol found in Fallout 3 which increases player's Strength and Charisma by one while decreasing their Intelligence by one. The increase in Strength allows players to temporarily carry 10 pounds more.

Notes

  • Drinking only beer and selling other drinks (Whiskey, Scotch, Wine, and Vodka) allows players to make the most of their items because the other drinks are worth more than beer.
  • Drink beer to increase your Carry Weight, then fast travel to a safe location with a marketplace (Megaton or Rivet City are good choices).

"There's a construct down there, complete with an atmosphere, gravity, and the one thing Marines love like beer - and that's dirt beneath our feet."
Major Silva, on Installation 04[1]

Beer is one of the world's oldest alcoholic beverages. It is produced by the fermentation of sugars derived from starch-based material — the most common being malted barley; however, wheat, corn and rice are also widely used, usually in conjunction with barley. Less widely used starch sources include millet, sorghum and cassava root in Africa, potato in Brazil, and agave in Mexico, among others.

Production

The starch source is steeped in water, along with certain enzymes, to produce a sugary wort which is then flavored with herbs, fruit or/and most commonly hops. Yeast is then used to cause fermentation, which produces alcohol and other waste products from anaerobic respiration of the sugars. The process of beer production is called brewing.

Beer uses many varying ingredients, production methods and traditions. The type of yeast and production method may be used to classify beer into ale, lager and spontaneously fermented beers. Some beer writers and organizations differentiate and categorize beers by various factors into beer styles. Alcoholic beverages fermented from non-starch sources such as grape juice (wine) or honey (mead), as well as distilled beverages, are not classified as beer.

Behind the scenes

Bungie themselves were once a beer distributor, serving a brew called Surly Dwarf Ale at at least one convention during the Myth era.

Fanon Alert!   This section contains non-canon material created by fans inspired by the show.

Drinking games involve drinking a pre-determined amount of alcoholic beverage whenever a pre-established condition has been met. The objective is to win via others becoming too drunk to continue participating, or sometimes to simply increase the enjoyment of the related activity through inebriation. In the fandom of Lost, one such drinking game is called "Jackface", based on the expressive and varied facial expressions of Matthew Fox; another example is drinking whenever Hurley says the word "Dude."

About Beer

Wikipedia Article About Beer on Wikipedia

Beer is the world's oldest and most popular alcoholic beverage. It is produced through the fermentation of starch-based material, commonly barley, though cassava root in Africa, potato in Brazil, and agave in Mexico, among other starch sources, have been used.

Only beverages produced by this method are considered to be beer. Neither alcoholic beverages made from the fermentation of sugars derived from nonstarch sources (e.g., grape juice or honey), nor beverages which are distilled after fermentation should be classified as such.

Because the ingredients and procedures used to make beer can differ, characteristics such as taste and colour may also vary. While local names for beers made with the same methods and ingredients may vary, the similarities of method and ingredients can be detected to form a study of the nature of beer styles.

Runescape

Up to date as of February 07, 2010

From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape

This article is about the regular beer. For the Fremennik drink, see Beer (tankard).

Beer, when drunk, heals one Hitpoint and temporarily increases the player's Strength by 4%, however it also decreases the player's Attack temporarily by 7%. Players can buy beer in Bars, or obtain it from monster drops.

The positive strength effect is not affected by the number of beers that the character has drunken, but the negative effect on attack is (multiply the base negative effect by the number of beers taken).

Beer can be used to make money (albeit, a strange way). Players can buy a beer, drink it, and sell the empty glasses on the Grand Exchange for a profit of 30 coins.

Miscellaneous:

  • Players will also get an empty Beer glass after the beer is drunk.
  • An empty beer glass can be refilled by using it on barrels with a small spout that has the examine info "It's got ale in it", "The barrel is full of ale" or "Mmm...beer!". This however does not work in the Barbarian Village where if you tried this you would get attacked, this is because they are protective of their beer, though in the past it was possible to obtain beer from the barrels there. If you try doing the same with the taps in most bars you will get a funny message. Some beer barrels that give beer are located in the small warehouse in Draynor Village, the first floor of the Windmill in Hemenster, and on the docking pier of Musa Point.
  • Players cannot brew regular beer.
  • Beer is a common drop by Hill giants and is sometimes used for its healing properties by players fighting the giants. Players using melee often disdain it, as its negative effect on attack is larger and lasts much longer than its positive effect on strength. Many players using ranged or magic, however, use the beer to heal, since it does not affect those skills.
  • Beers also may be obtained for 2 coins from the "Blue Moon Inn" in Varrock. Speak to the bartender.
  • Arnold Lydspor in the Piscatoris Fishing Colony stocks 10 beers at 2gp each.

Trivia

  • When drinking a beer of any kind, the animation is the same as eating something.
