From TARDIS Index File, the free Doctor Who reference.

A bat is a nocturnal animal found on Earth that is feared by some humans in the belief that they drink blood, but few species of bats do, in fact, drink blood.

Many Vampire legends tell of Vampires turning themselves into bats and back into their true forms.

Florence Stoker had the ability to control bats and used them to block the sunlight, allowing her to go outside during the day. (DWAM: Bat Attack!)

At one point, bats lived in the Cloister Room of the Doctor's TARDIS. (DW: Doctor Who) Their names were Jasper and Stewart. (EDA: Vampire Science, Seeing I)

One species of bat was native to Androzani Minor. (DW: The Caves of Androzani)

The Screamers were bat-like creatures native to Desperus. (DW: The Daleks' Master Plan)

The Tetraps resembled bats in their appearance, and they also slept upside down just like bats. (DW: Time and the Rani)

From Muppet Wiki

The Bats are pets of Count von Count on Sesame Street. According to the book There's No Place Like Home two thousand and twelve bats living in the Count's castle, but only some have names, such as Grisha, Misha, Sasha, and Tattiana. In the book The Count Counts a Party, his number one bat is identified as Lyuba. On Sesamestreet.org's main page video for Number 5 Day (May 15, 2009), one of the Count's bats is named Louis.

The bats rarely speak; most of the time they just flap around like real bats do. In one 1970s sketch when the bats spoke, the leading bat was voiced by Frank Oz.

As a singing group, they have been credited as Ftatateeta and the Bats on "The Batty Bat" and "Count Up to Nine."

On The Muppet Show, Judy Collins performed "Leatherwing Bat" with Brown Bat in episode 205, and some more realistic bats were featured in Episode 119 and in the Dracula-themed number, "Welcome to My Nightmare" in episode 307. Bats were also featured in the "Bats: the Musical" sketch in episode 108 of Muppets Tonight, in which host Jason Alexander and his old college buddy Gonzo wore bat costumes for the performance.

Leia the Fruit Bat was featured in the second episode of The Animal Show, and the puppet was reused as Benny the Bat on Bear in the Big Blue House.[citation needed]

Official description
Vampires sometimes turn into bats when they want to flee. The worse is that they feel obliged to let out an evil little laugh which sounds like "gnak gnook gnak gnak". Their laughter can put to rout an army...of ticks.

Bat is a resource.

Bat (バット Batto) is a recurring type of enemy in the Final Fantasy series. In terms of strength bat-type enemies are weak and pose little threat alone, but they often attack in numbers. Their trademark ability is to absorb the HP of their targets with attacks like Drain and Vampire, and sound-based attacks. Some bat-type enemies also count as undead. Some variations of bat include the Vampire Bat and Poison Bat.

There is more information available on this subject at Bat on the English-language Wikipedia.

The Bat is a flying mammal originating from the planet Earth. The only mammal to have developed full flight, rather than merely gliding, bats use echolocation to sense their surroundings, a natural version of radar, although their eyes are fully functional. They are primarily nocturnal and are usually omnivores.

Bats were present as part of the ecology of Harvest, likely transplanted there during terraforming operations to establish a local ecosystem.[1]
