Barrows gloves, simply called Gloves in game, are special metal gloves that can be bought from the Culinaromancer's Chest for 100,000 coins (fully stocked) after full completion of the Recipe for Disaster quest. They look similar to barrows armour, hence their name, but they cannot be obtained from the Barrows minigame, and do not degrade. These are untradeable and considered the best combat-based gloves in the game as they give the highest of all 5 combat bonuses. They also give the highest strength bonus of any non-weapon item in the game. Only Dragon gauntlets have higher melee and ranged defence, and only Black dragonhide and Third age vambraces have higher magic defence.

There is debate over the real name, as they are merely called "Gloves" in the game. Many players think that they look similar to barrows equipment, since their colour is identical to the platebodies, platelegs, and helmets of Dharok, Guthan, and Torag. They are generally known as barrows gloves. Some players still refer to them as 'dark gloves'.

Although these gloves are considerably stronger than Dragon Gloves they can be bought for the same price from the Culinaromancer's Chest. Therefore it is advised that players complete Recipe for Disaster before buying any of the gloves. However inexperienced players may wish to buy dragon gloves if the final battle proves too difficult.

These gloves do not have any requirements to wear; however, due to all the subquests that are required to complete Recipe for Disaster, there is a minimum of 34 Defence given from quests before these gloves are obtainable. Some players say that it is very hard to obtain them at a lower level because of all of the quests, such as Desert Treasure, Monkey Madness, as well as the skills and tough monsters they will encounter during the quest.
As with all Glove-based equipment, this item cannot be made using the Smithing skill.

Trivia

  • In 2007, Barrows gloves cost 130,000 coins when the chest had full stock.
  • The gloves cannot be sold back to the shop nor another player. If the player wants to get rid of them for any reason, the gloves can be alchemised, making a total loss of 60,000 coins (Low Alchemy) or 40,000 coins (High Alchemy)
  • These are currently the strongest items to be worn on hands in Runescape
  • There was a small rumour that wearing them gave a cooking bonus, but this rumour was tested and dismissed.
