Barkeep (マスター, Masutā) is a Hypello in Final Fantasy X-2 that is a member of the Gullwings. Although the specific details are not known, Brother found Barkeep and took him aboard the Celsius, the Gullwings' Airship. Barkeep runs the "bar" aboard the ship, and, due to the fact no one knows his actual name, he is simply referred to as Barkeep.

During the course of the game, he runs a shop that Yuna can buy some curative items and accessories from. He also gives the option to rest, and, although the blue Save Spheres completely heal the party, resting does have a function. If the party rests once per Chapter, after resting for the final time, an extra cut scene is played showing Brother and Barkeep talking about Brother's infatuation with Yuna, and then, in a strange twist, Barkeep actually revealing he has his own partner, Darling, much to Brother's dismay. From this point, players can also rename the animals that appear when using the Trainer dressphere.

Gameplay

There is also a glitch associated with Barkeep. During Chapter 1, if the player rescues O'aka XXIII and take him on board the airship, he opens a shop with a set debt, opposite Barkeep's bar. By buying items from him, the player decreases his debt. If the player clears his debt before the end of Chapter 2, he will sell his items at 10% of the price, which is less than the money received if the player sells the same item to Barkeep. So, by buying an item from O'aka, then selling it back to Barkeep, they player can actually make money.

Trivia

  • His Japanese name, Master, reflects the Japanese culture of how customers would address the owner of a bar.
