Barbara Smith (née Wilson), the mother of Sarah Jane Smith died on the day of the Foxgrove village fete on the 18th August 1951 when Sarah Jane was 3 months old. She and her husband Eddie Smith drove off in their car leaving their baby behind in the pram.

Yeoman Barbara Smith was a Human enlisted member of Starfleet in the 2260s.
In 2265, she served aboard the USS Enterprise as Captain James T. Kirk's personnel yeoman. However, the two never developed a good working relationship, which was hampered by Kirk constantly referring to her as "Yeoman Jones", after a gamma shift yeoman of that name. A few days later, Smith attended Lieutenant Lee Kelso's memorial service. Following this her request for a transfer was approved by Captain Kirk, and she left the ship when the Enterprise reached Earth. (TOS - My Brother's Keeper novel: Constitution)
