Baldwin's Casuals was a denim clothing manufacturing company set up by Mike Baldwin when he moved into the street in 1976. In 1988 Mike switched to producing curtains as it was cheaper, he renamed the business Baldwin's Curtains. The machinists soon grew tired of working for Mike as they were getting less wages than when they were producing denim clothes. In autumn 1989 Mike was approached by developer Maurice Jones, Maurice had already demolished the community centre and had purchased all of the land behind the factory, Maurice gave Mike a sum of 293,000 pounds, more than twice the factory's value. A few days later the building was flattened to make way for Nos. 2, 4, 6 and 8.
