History

Babe came from the planet Egg where his people are actually the rocklike formations of that world that generate new offspring through nonsexual reproduction; the children eventually will grow and form new mountains as they age. Babe was eventually stolen from his homeworld by a greedy offworld captain and forced to work as slave labor until Morphea encountered him and offered herself as a surrogate mother with the promise of bringing the child home. Babe became part of Martin Champion's second team known as the Atari Force, where they were to retrieve one of the Martin's probes that was stolen by the Dark Destroyer.

Powers and Abilities

Powers

Great strength and a dense shell-like backside that gives him some level of protection from projectiles.

Weaknesses

Despite his immense size, Babe is effectively a toddler and is prone to childlike behavior.

Babe title card

Babe was a 1995 movie based on the novel The Sheep Pig (published in America as Babe: The Gallant Pig). In addition to the use of live animals, Jim Henson's Creature Shop supplied realistic animatronic animals for Babe (approximately 50% of the total shots), Ferdinand the Duck (approximately 50% of the total shots), Fly and Rex the sheepdogs (approximately 10% of the total shots), Duchess the Cat (approximately 90% of the total shots), and the Singing Mice (100% of the total shots). Standing, sitting and lying models were created, as well as hand-puppet versions for certain scenes. John Cox's Creature Workshop supplied the sheep, and Rhythm and Hues created the CGI lipsync of the real animals.

The 1998 sequel, Babe: Pig in the City, was made without Creature Shop involvement.

The Creature Shop won an Academy Award as part of the Visual Effects.

Trivia

In media coverage of the film, and the Creature Shop's involvement, inevitable comparisons were made to the most famous puppet pig:

One pig who thrives on human attention is Jim Henson's Miss Piggy. Was the sultry sow, as rumored, angry she didn't land the part of Babe? Hogwash, says Lynn Calle of Jim Henson's Creature Shop: "Miss Piggy doesn't acknowledge she's a pig. She's upset she's not getting parts that go to Michelle Pfeiffer. [1]

Babe is an undead ox owned by the witch Maggie. Babe can be found, along with Maggies other ox, Norman, in their camp west of the Legends' Guild in central Kandarin. Babe and the rest of Maggie's camp were once located east of the Crafting Guild, but after the end of the 2008 Hallowe'en event, they moved to the fields near East Ardougne. Although Babe is mentioned in the Swept Away quest, she is not directly involved. Maggie remarks during the 2008 Hallowe'en event that Babe has 'the sniffles' which is why she can't go trick-or-treating.

Babe sneezes all the time, which bothers Norman. Maggie advices not to come to close to Babe, because she still might be a bit contagious after she gave her a portion of Goulash.

Trivia

File:Babe.png

The name Babe most likely comes from the story of Paul Bunyan, as he has an ox named Babe.
