Atlas, as described in Greek mythology, was the primordial Titan who supported the heavens.

In the war with the Olympians, Atlas sided with the Titans; when the Titans were defeated, Zeus condemned Atlas to stand at the western edge of Gaia (the Earth) and hold up Ouranos (the sky) to prevent the two from resuming their primordial embrace. A common misconception is that Atlas holds the Earth on his shoulders; classical art shows Atlas holding a Celestial Sphere, not a Globe.

During the Borg Invasion of 2381, Federation President Nanietta Bacco managed to gather an allied fleet at the Azure Nebula in an attempt to halt the Borg Collective's assaults. However, the fleet of several hundred vessels was all but wiped out by a fleet of over seven thousand Borg cubes; upon receiving the news, Bacco felt that the weight of her Presidency was akin to that of Atlas holding up the sky. History

In ancient times in a faraway land, the mighty hero Atlas became a champion of the oppressed in his struggle against the despotic King Hyssa. As a youth, Atlas had been one of the peaceful people of the Crystal Mountains until King Hyssa's raiders attacked the village. Burning Atlas' home to the ground, killing his father, and capturing everyone he knew or cared about, Hyssa unwittingly made himself a powerful enemy that would pursue him for years.

Wearing his magic crystal pendant, Atlas escaped the slavers and found a new home with a kind-hearted man named Chagra. It was not long before Chagra realized the boy possessed incredible strength. He became Atlas' manager, and accompanied him on his journeys, watching the young hero rescue citizens and defeat evil princes. Finally arriving in the capital city of Hyssa, Atlas touted his strength in the marketplace, where he fought challengers one-on-one. it is unknown whether Atlas eventually succeeded in taking his revenge on the sinister King Hyssa. What is known is that his heart grew dark and villainous.

Years into his reign, Atlas was pulled through time by Project 7734's Time Pool technology, at the behest of General Lane, who wanted Atlas to work for him against alien threats like Superman. AStlas was distrusdtful at first, but ultimately agreed. He fought Superman to a standstill, and is Project 7734's go-to asset whenever Lane wants someone "roughed up".

Performer:
Atlas in "The StoryTeller: Greek Myths"

Atlas, in Greek mythology, was one of the Titans that ruled during the Golden Age. Legend holds that Zeus condemned Atlas to stand at the western edge of the earth and hold up the heavens on his shoulders, to prevent the two from resuming their primordial embrace.

Atlas appeared on The StoryTeller: Greek Myths in the story of "Perseus and the Gorgon". Atlas, wearily holding up the heavens, greets Perseus on his way to slay the gorgon. On his return with Medusa's head, Perseus shows it to Atlas, turning him to stone. The giant Atlas becomes a mountain and can for the first time rest from his once tiring job.

When Lee Lawrie designed a bronze statue of Atlas to adorn the Rockefeller Center in New York City, he conceived that the image of Atlas holding a globe would represent the celestial sphere of ancient astronomy. This meaning has evolved in pop culture best described by a common phrase used: "he held the weight of the world on his shoulders."

    • Booster ID number: 2
Atlas is a redeco of the Mini-Con Sparkplug, transforming into a Lamborghini Diablo. He was sold as part of the first Micron Booster assortment (called "Ver.0") in Japan, in individual, blind-packed boxes so you did not know which Mini-Con you got until you opened the box and opaque black plastic bag inside.
Atlas shares a mold with Drop-Test. A retool of the mold is used for Chrome, Synapse and Road Rebel.

Trivia

  • Atlas' name is most likely a shortened version of "Dai Atlas", as the first three Micron Booster assortment "headliners"123 have names similar to Japanese Autobot leaders/protagonists.123

City of Heroes

Up to date as of January 31, 2010

From City of Heroes Wiki

Atlas's Statue in Atlas Park
Atlas was one of the early heroes of Paragon City. The Atlas Park zone is named for him, and there is an enormous statue erected in front of City Hall in his honor.

Atlas was one of the first heroes to respond to the Nazi sneak attack against Paragon City on December 7th, 1941. Almost single-handedly, Atlas kept the German attackers from gaining a foothold past Independence Port. It cost him his life, but he held his ground until the Freedom Phalanx arrived.

The statue of Atlas was dedicated by Statesman himself in a ceremony christening the heart of Atlas Park. Many heroes were inspired enough by Atlas's sacrifice to volunteer for the Freedom Phalanx's trek across the Atlantic to help reinforce the Dawn Patrol in England. To this day, Atlas Park is the safest area in Paragon City and many new heroes dedicate themselves to making sure it stays that way.
