Astronomy is a study of events that take place outside of the Earth's atmosphere, and astrophyics is the part of the study of astronomy that deals with the physical aspects of the universe as a whole.

The Astronomer was one of the Elders of the Universe. He was a member of one of the first living species in the universe, created just before the Big Bang. Due to a special agreement with Death, one last representative of each of these species would survive, and became immortal - They couldn't even be killed by violent means.
Each of these Elders of the Universe would select one particular area and became an expert at it. The Astronomer chose to register the slow evolution of stars and galaxies, soon losing interest in living creatures. This might be the reason why he went undiscovered until recentely.
The Astronomer was involved in a recent plan of the Elders to destroy Galactus and the universe with it. The Astronomer helped the Grandmaster with his scheme: He reasoned that, if Galactus were destroyed, the Universe would collapse. A new Big Bang would result and, as the Elders would survive it, all of them would become Galactus-like beings in the new universe.
The plan began with an agreement to kill the Silver Surfer so he could not help Galactus. However, the Elders' attack against the Surfer led the Surfer to fight the Elders. As a result of the plan going wrong, the Astronomer and his partners-in-crime, the Grandmaster, the Possessor and the Trader, were thrown to a black hole by Galactus.
Years later, the Astronomer was freed by the In-Betweener, and apparently killed by Death, under directions of the In-Betweener.
Like all Elders, the Astronomer is connected to the energy of the universe due to his single-minded devotion to his "hobby," giving him cosmic awareness of the universe and all elements within it. The Astronomer also possesses some level of ability to manipulate cosmic energies, the full extent of which remains to be revealed. Also, as with the Grandmaster's pact with Death, all Elders are unaffected by aging, disease, or toxins.
An astronomer studied the science of celestial objects and phenomena called astronomy. They discovered new stars, planets, supernovas, and mapped constellations. It was usually regarded as a lifelong occupation for people who spent their entire lives on only one planet.
The bright skies of Coruscant prevented amateur astronomers from studying space from that planet.
Astronomy was a subject taught at many schools across the galaxy, including the Jedi Temple where Anakin Skywalker learned it. Astronomy was among one of many subjects that DJ-88 taught Ken.
An astronomer on Tamban first "discovered" the Koornacht Cluster, and named it after Aitro Koornacht.
