The military in GTA games are the armed forces of the USA, comprising mostly of the Army, but also with air and naval bases. The army themselves don't appear in Grand Theft Auto IV, because it enhances realism - the army would not be sent to kill one person, and also because the army do not generally operate within large cities. The army is replaced somewhat by NOOSE. The military is also important in many missions throughout the series, such as Sir, Yes Sir!, Black Project, Green Goo, Up, Up and Away!, Vertical Bird and Over the Top.

Grand Theft Auto II

In Grand Theft Auto II, the military will chase trh ===Grand Theft Auto III era===After the player gains six stars in a GTA III Era game, the army will begin to chase the player. On the ground, two military vehicles are used to kill the player; the Barracks OL, which is used for troop transport, and the Rhino tank. The soldiers themselves are always well armed with weapons that will often make short work of the player and most vehicles.

Members of the military behave as a gang in Vice City and will attack the player if spotted on military territory, unless in a Cop uniform. They will also set up roadblocks comprised of the Barracks OL with soldiers armed with M16's in GTA III, M4's (in Fort Baxter Air Base) and MP5's (during a 6-star wanted level), and M4 Carbines in every other GTA III Era game. These aren't as lethal as those of the FBI since there could be two FBI vehicles taking up one road with at least eight agents. But seeing as how the Barracks takes up the space of one road they can be broken through although the MP5s still pose a threat, especially since the Army is very well trained, more than the FBI.

A strange thing is that soldiers in the Fort Baxter Air Base never participate in law enforcement activity; if the player is wearing a police uniform or army fatigues and enters the base with a wanted level; only the law enforcement officers that enter from outside will try killing the player.

  • In GTA Vice City, the soldiers at the Fort Baxter Air Base are considered to be part of the Streetwannabe's gang.
  • Even though you are chased by Rhino's at six stars, they will not fire at you because they are not programmed to fire its main gun.
  • The Vice City National Guard soldiers strangely seem to wear fatigues similar to the present day German Army fatigues.

The UNSC Army is a branch of the UNSC Defense Force primarily responsible for land-based military operation.[1]

Little is known about the UNSC Army, and this is probably due to the fact that the Army is a land based fighting force, and thus little of the Army is assigned to the UNSC Navy, with the exception of transport to other planets. It is also known that the UNSC Army uses different equipment such as the M6J Carbine, the MA37 Assault Rifle, and the M392 DMR.[2]

It is known that the UNSC Army frequently patrols colony planets,[3] but little is known about any operations they've participated in, apart from the Battle of Mare Erythraeum and Battle of Reach. Unlike the Marines, which actively take the offensive against the enemy, the UNSC Army is largely used in defensive operations, such as garrisoning UNSC-held territory.[1]

The several supposed UNSC Army operations could be the Battle of Mare Erythraeum where Colonel James Ackerson may have led an unknown number of Army infantry forces against the Jiralhanae Commander Lepidus on Mars, the Battle of Reach where some Army units assisted Noble Team, and was present during the Battle of Earth where a unit was known to help Marine and civilian forces in New Mombasa. It is also highly likely that the Army fought against Covenant Loyalist forces in other engagements during the Battle of Earth.[notes 2]

Battle Dress Uniform

The Troopers sport olive-drab fatigues, with brown-gray armor plating. Main components of the armor include an armored vest, a helmet and large shoulder pads. The chest armor also has an extension to provide protection to the groin. The shins are not armored like Marine BDU, with only dust-gray combat boots and black kneepads on the lower leg. Thighs have attachment rigs for equipment much like in the other versions. The green monocle eyepiece used by some Marines are also used, with some Troopers sporting tactical goggles as well.

  • The only known confirmed members of the UNSC Army are Colonel James Ackerson, an intelligence officer in the ONI who was once an infantryman, and Colonel Urban Holland.[3]
  • The UNSC Army has its own specially designed variant of the M6; the M6J Carbine.

  1. Considering that James Ackerson is an Army Colonel, the UNSC most likely used Army infantry forces during the Battle of Mare Erythraeum
  2. If Ackerson was leading it, then it could be an Army operation.

From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.

The term Army can, of course, indicate a wide range of military formations, ranging from the war-bands of a few hundred soldiers used by the clans and tribes of stone-technology-level worlds like Endor and Dathomir, to a galaxy-spanning war-machine with billions of troops. But within the Imperial Army of the Galactic Empire, the term Army, when used on its own, indicated a distinct level of formation, commanded by a full General, and consisting of a nominal total of 193,644 front-line soldiers in an establishment strength of 293,686 personnel. An average Sector apparently contained four such surface armies, which served as the main, planetary-assault, and surface-warfare force for the Moff's regime; along with a number of garrisons built around Corps HQs, that made up the Systems Army.

Until the last years of the Empire, an Army was rarely deployed as a single formation on a single planet, but it was designed to operate in concert with a standard Troop Squadron of the Imperial Navy, and deployment of the entire formation together began to be considered as the Rebellion grew in force after the Battle of Yavin. More usually, an Army would deploy subordinate units to specific battlefields or theaters: its primary subdivisions were four Corps, any one of which was considered sufficient to retake a rebellious world.
