History

Anvil was a young super-hero who hailed from an alternate future timeline. Along with his partner Aurora, he was one of many such heroes who fought against the forces of Lord Chaos and was a member of the "Team Titans". On February 18th, 1998, Anvil and Aurora staged an attack against Lord Chaos himself at a recruitment center in Gibbstown, Louisiana. While Aurora attacked Chaos from above, Anvil latched onto the villain's hovercraft. One of the potential recruits, a fifteen-year-old boy named Charlie Watkins, sought to save Lord Chaos, so he tackled Anvil, latching onto his legs. This distracted Anvil, enabling Lord Chaos the opportunity to kill him by firing two energy blasts into his chest.

Powers

Anvil's powers have never been revealed. Judging by his code name and muscular physique, it is reasonable to assume that he possessed superhuman levels of strength and durability. His body also projected an energy field of some kind, possibly a force field. This field however was not strong enough to save him from Lord Chaos' energy attack.

A player using an anvil.
An anvil

An Anvil is used to smith items through the Smithing skill. An anvil can be used to smith items by using a bar on an anvil while the player has a hammer in their inventory, and then a selection screen will come up.

There are several anvils located around the RuneScape world which are identified with an anvil File:Anvil icon.png icon on the world map and minimap.

The most convenient anvil may be that in Varrock, since it is directly opposite a bank. The closest one to Lumbridge is the anvil in the dungeon right next to the jail in Draynor. Remember to take a hammer, or the walk will be wasted.

There is no competition for anvils (since multiple players can use an anvil concurrently), but around a busy one, players may have to right-click and select, or they will often end up fruitlessly trying to use the metal bar on somebody standing by it.

There is one unusual anvil, and that is an experimental anvil that players use in The Tourist Trap to help them make a prototype dart. It is only used in the quest, and is not shown with an icon on the minimap or world map. It is located in the northernmost tent in the Bedabin Camp.

Locations

Anvil location Notes
Available to Free Players
Varrock west Closest to bank; low-level players can buy smithed items from higher level smiths.
Varrock centre Two anvils in Horvik's shop.
Varrock east Two anvils just south of the bank on the west side. Used in the Hard difficulty Varrock Diary to make a Adamant med helm.
Doric's Hut Two anvils located north of Falador, which can only be used if players have completed Doric's Quest.
Dwarven Mine Two anvils that may be helpful if players are Superheat Item smelters, or by entering the South entrance from Falador, and the furnace there.
Thurgo's Peninsula South of Port Sarim, though there is little reason to smith here. The nearest bank is in Falador, and the nearest general store that sells hammers is in Rimmington. But can be used by low level miners who have not completed dorics quest as is closest to Falador except for dorics hut.
Draynor Village In the sewer dungeon, where zombies and skeletons lurk. This is used in the Lumbridge/Draynor Achievement Diary. Beware, however, that the monsters here may be aggressive to low level players.
Wilderness In the Western Ruins, at level 23 wilderness. May be useful to smith bars made at Eastern Ruins furnace and make room for some more ores from the Hobgoblin mine.
Available to Members only
Barbarian village In the south-west most house. This is rarely used for smithing as the Varrock west anvil is much closer to the bank. However, it should also be noted that this is a Barbarian anvil, which means it can be used to smith Hastae and Spears only.
Keldagrim Several anvils in Keldagrim: one by the bank, one by the general store, and three by the Blast Furnace.
Seers' Village West of bank.
Yanille Just south of the bank; also near the Wizards' Guild.
Wilderness West of the Mage Arena.
Hemenster West of the Ranging Guild.
Nardah In the platelegs shop.
Port Khazard Just west of the Trawler Mini-Game.
Jatizso North of the platebody shop. Requires The Fremennik Trials.
Miscellania Next to the coal mine in Sogthorpe.
Karamja North of Tai Bwo Wannai.
Void Knights' Outpost West of the bank.
West Ardougne Along the north wall.
Burthorpe In the north-east corner.
Relleka In the south-west corner there are three. It's the closest anvil to a furnace in all of RuneScape, but no bank is nearby.
Dragon forge In the area with mithril dragons. Can only be used to make dragon platebodies.
