A cable runs out from the jungle to an underwater DHARMA Initiative station known as the Looking Glass.

The cable comes out of the ground in the jungle within a few hundred feet of a ravine with a rope bridge across it. It then runs through the jungle along the ground to the beach on the south side of the Island. From the beach, it travels through the ocean to the Looking Glass station.



The cable was first discovered coming out of the sea by Sayid from an unseen source. It was slightly damaged, revealing wires within it. Danielle Rousseau had set traps alongside the cable - one captured Sayid, another almost killed Hurley, and another would have killed Charlie without Desmond's intervention.



According to Mikhail Bakunin, there are several cables that run from the Flame to all the other DHARMA stations, to the Barracks, and to a beacon in the ocean which aids in the sonar navigation of the submarine arriving at the island from the outside. He describes the main purpose of the cable as being "for communication". ("Enter 77")

Using some documents that he retrieved from the Flame, Sayid later figures out that the cable serves as connection between the island and the underwater DHARMA station, the Looking Glass. ("Greatest Hits")

The documents display the cable in a different configuration than is seen in 2004. The side view of the cable shows an anchor structure near the shore where the cable goes inland. The top view of the cable talks about the cable being anchored to land.

Sonar beacon

According to Mikhail, the cable leads to the Sonar Beacon. This beacon allows the submarine to locate the island from the outside. ("Enter 77")

The cable was later shown to run to the Looking Glass, the schematics of which indicate a sonar and observation room. ("Greatest Hits") The show's creators have confirmed that the Looking Glass is the underwater station suspected by fans. (Official Lost Podcast/May 21, 2007)

It is said that the sonar beacon has been down since the electromagnetic pulse. The combination of the failure of the sonar system and the communications uplink at the Flame triggers the Flame's computer to provide a menu option asking if there has been an intrusion by the hostiles at the station. Comic Con 2006

The existence of an underwater DHARMA station was hinted at during the 2006 Comic Con in San Diego, in response to a fan question about the cable, approximately a year before the station appeared in an actual episode. This Lost panel discussion was also rebroadcast as The Official Lost Podcast on July 31, 2006.

Damon Lindelof: The underwater hatch?

Damon Lindelof: Well, I would not deny that there is an underwater hatch.
Carlton Cuse: Yeah, I wouldn’t confirm it, but… [Someone cheers, crowd laughs]

The Barrelchest anchor is the second strongest non-degradable weapon in RuneScape, obtained by killing the level 170 Barrelchest monster in The Great Brain Robbery quest. 60 Attack and 40 Strength are the requirements to wield it, and it is currently the 6th strongest melee weapon in the game after Dharok's greataxe, Statius's warhammer, Vesta's longsword, Vesta's spear and the Godsword. As with all maul weapons, except the meat tenderiser, it is two handed. The Barrelchest anchor has a special attack, "Sunder", which doubles the chance of hitting, and will lower the opponent's Attack, Defence, Ranged, or Magic level by 10% of the damage inflicted upon use if successful. It uses 50% of the Special Attack bar. Shadowing its brute strength is its weight and speed which does not make it an ideal training weapon, though it is more useful for PvP, though still not as much as other weapons. When first acquired, it is broken, and therefore must be taken to Smith the pirate, in Mos Le'Harmless, to be repaired for 230,000 coins in order to wield the weapon. The max hit is currently 62 with degradable PvP armour and a Castlewars Brace in Castle Wars. However, despite all this, the anchor is not a very popular weapon as many players feel that the Abyssal whip is better.

All of the anchor's attack styles were originally identical to that of a pickaxe, but has recently been changed into mace attack styles. It has the same speed as a Battleaxe.

If lost, it can be re-obtained by talking to the monk, Brother Tranquility, on Mos Le'Harmless to receive another broken anchor which can once again be fixed by Smith the Pirate for 230,000 coins. The Book o' piracy is required in order to communicate with him, unless the player has completed the Rocking Out quest.

Originally when the anchor was first released, the Strength bonus was 80 and the cost to buy a new anchor was 50,000 coins, along with the speed being 5 bars on Jagex's scale. It was then changed to 700,000 coins for a new one with an 87 strength bonus. Later, it was changed again to 230,000 coins for all repairs and stats changed to 92 crush and 100 strength bonus, as well as achieving the current speed.

In the past, if a player were to go to a free-to-play world while having the Barrelchest Anchor equipped, it would appear as though they were wielding a large pickaxe, but there was a change to the way members would hold their items in free-to-play worlds, making them wield the weapon properly, as is seen in members' worlds.

Recovering Investment

When dropped while dying, 230,000 coins will be dropped in its place instead of the anchor. But due to the gravestone update, the coins will now appear under the gravestone. Players that no longer want the anchor use this to get their investment back. To do this players usually intentionally die near their respawn point. If that player doesn't have three items which would be kept on death ahead of the anchor, he or she can become Skulled instead with only the anchor in his or her inventory. Earlier, players could use Zamorak brews and explosive potions, however due to an update, this is now not possible. Another way to get your money back is to attack 1-3 knights at the Falador castle and let them kill you. If your respawn is in Camelot, then go to the beehives and attempt to take honey without gloves on. Repeat until this kills you, then run to your gravestone (not far) and retrieve the coins. For those with their respawn points in  Lumbridge, you can go to the Lumbridge Slayer Caves without any light source and die there.


  • The Ancient mace's special attack animation is exactly the same as the Barrelchest anchor. For a split second after the Mace's special attack has been performed, the player holds it like the Anchor.
  • When you drop the anchor when it's broken, it will be smaller than the inventory image.
  • In real life, 'sundering' is attempting to destroy an opponent's weapon
