The Amphibious Interstellar Assault Transport/infantry (AIAT/i) was a gunship used by the Galactic Republic's Judicial Forces, as well as Mandalorian troops, as a troop transport in the decades before the Clone Wars.

Characteristics

The AIAT/i gunship was 31.5 meters long, 12.5 meters high, and had a 30-meter wingspan.

It was propelled by a pair of oversized sublight engines, and could carry either 350 cubic meters of cargo or 50 troops, 1 repulsorlift assault vehicle, 4 speeder bikes, 1 IM-6 medical droid, and 6 prisoners.

It had a number of weapons and was capable of landing on water.

History

AIAT/i transports were produced over three decades before the Battle of Geonosis.

One of these vessels was used by Jaster Mereel and known by its military designation, JAST07. Later, Jango Fett used the ship and renamed it Jaster's Legacy, before losing it and acquiring Slave I.

Boba Fett also owned a ship of this class, called Slave IV.

Behind the scenes

  • Some confusion has arisen over the use of AIAT/i for two seemingly different gunship models, the one described here and the Aerial Initiative Assault Transport/infantry, created in the Imperial/New Republic era.
Sources published in the roughly same time period seemed to describe two different ship types, with one phasing out the other and using its acronyms.
However, it was revealed on the official site discussion board that the latter-era "Aerial Initiative Assault Transport/infantry" was a continuity glitch and that Amphibious Interstellar Assault Transport/infantry was the only official vessel.
