History
Amon Sur, son of the late
Green Lantern Corps member
Abin Sur, grew up to become the man in charge of the Black Circle crime syndicate. Amon was angry at his deceased father for abandoning him for the Corps and decided to take his anger out on all Green Lanterns.
Amon was eventually stopped by
Hal Jordan's successor,
Kyle Rayner and a second-generation
Guardian of the Universe named Lianna. Amon eventually had a confrontation with Hal Jordan himself, who returned to his Green Lantern role after being freed from the influence of
Parallax. Hal defeated the insane youth, but Amon received a duplicate of
Sinestro's ring from the
Qwardians and vanished. After Hal finally took Abin's body home and buried it, a mysterious yellow light appeared in the sky after Hal left, presumably Amon arriving to visit his father's grave.
Amon Sur had recently been recruited by the Sinestro Corps and had chosen to represent Space Sector 2814. During the Sinestro Corps War, the Book of Oa was rewritten, enabling Green Lantern Corps officers to use lethal force against their opponents. Fearing for his life, Amon Sur fled.[1] After the war concluded, a group of the "Lost Lanterns" traveled to the planet Varva, where they found that Amon Sur had only recently slaughtered the civilian populace. Flying into a rage, Green Lantern Laira slew Amon Sur with her power ring.[2]
During
Blackest Night, he returns as a member of the
Black Lantern Corps with a new
power ring. He leads many of his fallen Corpsmen against
Sinestro and the rest of the
Corps.
[3] His body was completely disintegrated by
Indigo and Munk of the
Indigo Tribe, and he was finally laid to rest.

Powers and Abilities
Abilities
- Intimidation: By massacring the members of the Black Circle, Amon Sur developed the ability to "instill great fear" in others, leading to his recruitment into the Sinestro Corps.
Weaknesses
- Cowardice: For all his bluster, Amon Sur is not his father. He is terrified of the Green Lanterns, particularly Hal Jordan. He willing faced them when he believed that they were limited to only attacking him. Once Amon saw that the Green Lanterns were able to kill, he fled in terror.
