From Your Subculture Soundtrack, the music encyclopedia

Artist: Chumbawamba

Album: Tubthumper

Appears On (Mixes): The Boys And Girls Are Lifting Up Their Plates, Happy Birthday Dad; Dad's Guitar Stuff

Song Notes: The Boys And Girls Are Lifting Up Their Plates: Since I'm basically blowing my indie-obscuro credibility here with the last one, why not go all out? Chumbawamba is basically a complete guilty pleasure of mine, and this is probably their best track. It's from the Big Hit Record, Tubthumper, but it's a really catchy, hooky song. I've got a remarkably low tolerance for their political stuff (the whole feeding tofu to their dog thing is just silly), but damned if they can't put together a fine pop-song. The album version has a sampled coda which seems to be taken from an autopsy documentary or something to that effect, and it's a little bit disturbing (which I assume was the point), but I've taken the liberty of chopping it out for you. Again, I don't know if I really have a whole lot more to add, but that I was basically just as surprised as you when I found out they were actually good. So, hey, check this out! - Rev. Syung Myung Me

Dr Who

From TARDIS Index File, the free Doctor Who reference.

Amnesia is the (usually temporary) loss of memory. Amnesia is classified as either functional amnesia, caused by psychological factors, and organic amnesia, caused by illness or traumatic injury to the brain, or by certain chemical agents.

On at least three instances, The Doctor suffered from partial amnesia after regenerating. (DW: Castrovalva, Time and the Rani, Doctor Who). Except in the case of the regeneration into his eighth form (caused by anesthesia), it is unclear whether this should be classified as functional or organic amnesia; in other words, it could be due to the biological process of regenerating, or the psychological trauma of "dying" and being reborn.

Another common cause of amnesia seems to be forcibly transmatting people through time and space.

Instances of Organic Amnesia

  • Ace suffered from amnesia when the Doctor accidentally erased her memory while editing his own. (NA: Timewyrm: Genesys)

Instances of Functional Amnesia

While likely caused by the psychological trauma of meeting himself, it may also be organic amnesia caused by the release of energy when the two Brigadiers touched.

Final Fantasy

Up to date as of February 01, 2010

From Final Fantasy Wiki

Amnesia is a recurring status effect in some Final Fantasy games which has several effects, depending on the game. In some ways it resembles the status effect Addle.

Appearances

Final Fantasy II

Amnesia is a stronger form of Silence. It prevents the use of magic spells and it never wears off, and is cured by a Mallet, and caused by the spell Fog.

Final Fantasy XI

Amnesia is a status effect in Final Fantasy XI which prohibits a player from using any form of special job ability. Players can still cast spells and attack as normal. Imps are the most common imposers of the status effect with their common ability abrasive tantara, though Lamiae and Ladybugs also have the ability to inflict the status.

The High Notorious Troll, Gurfurlur the Menacing, can cause Amnesia with his Haymaker ability.

Amnesia is a medical condition which results in the loss of memory. It comes in two general forms, anterograde amnesia where new memories are not transferred to long term memory and retrograde amnesia which is the loss of past memories.

Starfleet Commander Jay Allan was diagnosed with retrograde amnesia due to irreparable brain damage suffered during an away mission in late 2373. Rather than undergo retraining, he was granted a medical discharge. (Kal-Dixas Spaceport)
