Emblem of the Cardassian Union

Alon Ghemor was a Cardassian male who rose into a leadership role on post-war Cardassia.

Alon was the nephew of Legate Tekeny Ghemor, and cousin of Iliana Ghemor.

The young Alon had a compact athletic build and attended the Bamarren Institute for State Intelligence where he was given the designation Five Lubak. Five was recruited by Ten Lubak and Eight Lubak to assist in Barkan Lokar's team in the institute’s mock battle competition. He was part of Eight Lubak's team flanking the enemy.

In the aftermath of the Dominion War Alon began to form a democratic political movement which he called the Reunion Project. His supporters -- including Doctor Parmak and Elim Garak (the former Ten Lubak at Bamarran) -- quickly grew in numbers, but he faced strong opposition from a counter political group called the Directorate. The two groups eventually agreed to hold a voting competition. Ghemor's group won four out of six of the sectors of Cardassia City and moved to create a democratic government. (DS9 novel: A Stitch in Time)

Ghemor was assassinated in 2379 when it appeared to some that he was becoming too close to the Federation in his efforts to stabilize Cardassia. (DS9 short story: "The Calling")

"The Calling" takes place in 2380, a year after Ghemor's assassination. It will be some time before it is featured/mentioned in the Deep Space Nine relaunch book series, which is now in early 2377.

Alon Ghemor was Cardassian male who ascended to the leadership of post-war Cardassia. Alon was the nephew of Legate Tekeny Ghemor and cousin of Iliana Ghemor; he gave an interview to the Star-Sentinel in 2375 about his uncle and cousin that makes it quite clear just what an impression they made on him over the course of his lifetime. (Star Trek: Sigils and Unions--"A Weaver of Lives")

Following the Dominion War, Alon began a democratic political movement called the Reunion Project. His support quickly grew, but he also faced opposition from the Directorate. The two groups eventually held a voting competition in which the Reunion Project won four of six sectors of Cardassia City, forming a new democratic government. (DS9 novel: A Stitch in Time)

Nevertheless, Ghemor remained a target of the xenophobic True Way. In mid-2376, Gul Revok staged elaborate plan to assassinate Ghemor and lay blame on the Federation. The first phase involved an attack on two Federation starships escorting relief convoys to Cardassia and using the crews of those ships as hostages. Revok was able to capture the crew of the late-USS Lambda Paz, then demanded all convoys cease. This part of a ruse to lure Captain Limis Vircona to Cardassia in order coerce her into helping Revok, so an ex-Maquis would appear to have played a role in Ghemor's assassination.

Limis helped prevent the assassination by sending a subliminal warning to the USS Defiant. The Defiant was then able to send down a team to prevent the assassination.

Elim Garak served as Ghemor's chief of staff. Garak admitted that during his time in the Obsidian Order, he would not have supported someone like Ghemor. After the Dominion War, Garak felt Cardassia needed a change and that Ghemor was the best person to bring about that change. (Star Trek: War Aftermath Episode 1: The True Way) In this role, Garak would even aid an archaeological expedition that it was hoped would bolster the spirit of the Cardassian people. The results of the expedition were silenced, however, due to an accidental crossover to an alternate Cardassia. (Star Trek: Sigils and Unions Catacombs of Oralius--"Those Who Live in the Shadow of the Night")
