By the early 2270s, Joanna McCoy hasn't seen her father for "years" and is working on planet Hephaestus, a fact unknown to Leonard. She is now engaged to a Vulcan called Suvak.
Suvak later dies in an explosion, whereupon Joanna returns to her work on Hephaestus.
Leonard infers he last saw Joanna in 2268 (TAS episode The Survivor), but he saw her in 2269 (TOS novel Crisis on Centaurus). Joanna feels "uncomfortable" in Leonard's presence.
