Bill Irwin is surprised to find out where he is.

Alive from Off Center was a weekly arts anthology series, hosted by renowned performance artist Laurie Anderson, which aired on PBS from 1984 to 1987.

The series featured experimental short films by both up-and-coming and established directors. Comic actor Bill Irwin taped an episode titled As Seen on TV from 1987, in which he broke out of his reality and crossed into other television shows. William H. Macy also appeared in the episode.

One of the television shows Irwin enters is Sesame Street. In a room not unlike their original apartment in the pilot episode, Bert is watching a program about the alphabet as Ernie interrupts. Irwin appears on the television and breaks out, tumbling into the room and meeting the duo face to face. Jim Henson, Frank Oz, and Henson Associates are given credit for their contributions.

Irwin went on to play Mr. Noodle on Sesame Street eleven years later.
