The Trans Alaska pipeline

Alaska has been the Northern-most state of the United States of America since its admittance in 1959. It was cut off from the rest of the country by Canada until it was annexed either on February 14, 2075 or in January 2076. Alaska was one of the major sites of fighting during the war with China, notably around the Anchorage Front Line. It was very important during the War because of the Trans Alaska pipeline.

War in Alaska

In 2059, the United States establishes a significant military presence to protect its oil interests in Alaska, in light of the ever dwindling oil reserves in the world, as well as increasing tensions with China. In the winter of 2066, the Americans' fears are realized as the Chinese military invades Alaska and takes over a significant portion of the land. Alaska becomes a warzone between the United States and China, furthering fears of nuclear apocalypse around the world. On January 11, 2077, the United States finally reclaims Alaska from the Chinese. Relations between the two were still tense, ultimately leading to the The Great War on October 23rd of the same year.

Appearances

Alaska is mentioned in the background of Fallout, specifically in the Fallout Bible as well as loading screens in Fallout 3. Liberty Prime, a robot discovered by the Capital Wasteland Brotherhood of Steel, was specifically built to be used on the Alaskan frontlines. There is also a memorial in the Capital Wasteland, built before the Great War to commemorate the Liberation of Anchorage. The Fallout 3 DLC Operation: Anchorage features a simulation of the Liberation of Anchorage in Alaska.

The robot Liberty Prime will talk about the liberation of Anchorage as it leads you to the Jefferson Memorial. It was programmed to believe that it is on the frontlines of Anchorage as it decimates the Enclave, who he believes to be Chinese soldiers.

The canceled Fallout Extreme would have taken place partly in Alaska.
