Air marshal (abbreviated as Air Mshl or AM) was an air officer rank in the Starfleet Starfighter Corps in the late 24th century. It ranked above air vice-marshal but immediately below air chief marshal.

Air marshal was equivalent to the rank of lieutenant general in the Starfleet Marine Corps and to the rank of vice admiral in Starfleet. (Star Trek: Daedalus)

Behind the scenes

In the real world, Air Marshal is a rank in the RAF and some other militaries, particularly those of Commonwealth countries. It is usually equivalent to Lieutenant General and Vice Admiral. In the Egyptian Air Force and Brazilian Air Force, however, the rank of Air Marshal is used for the commander-in-chief, ranking above a series of General ranks in Egypt, and above three grades of "Brigadier" in Brazil.

Imperial starfighter officers in Star Wars tend to use army-style ranks such as Colonel and General, broadly comparable to the USAF and many other real-world militaries, although the one complete tabulation of TIE Pilot ranks, in The Stele Chronicles, integrates the hierarchy into the Imperial Navy at the higher levels. There is no direct canon evidence to indicate how the rank of Air Marshal fits into this system, although it is evidently relatively senior.

The idea that the Empire uses the RAF/Commonwealth system of ranks for its starfighter pilots is fanon. Although this concept may have played an out-of-universe role in the appearance of an "Air Marshal" rank in canon, it cannot be used to define what that rank means in-universe. According to The Stele Chronicles, the canon equivalent of an RAF/Commonwealth Air Marshal is a Vice Admiral.
