The Aenar are a sub-species of the Andorian race.
They were long considered a myth by the Andorians until they were discovered in 2104 after which official diplomatic relations were maintained by both governments.
In 2154, the Aenar were dragged into interstellar politics when a member of their species was kidnapped by the Romulans and used to remote control a drone ship. (ENT episodes: "United", "The Aenar")

As subspecies of the Andorians, the Aenar are anatomically and physiologically similar. The Aenar's differences from the Andorians include:
Andorians and Aenar are able to reproduce. Aenar/Andorian hybrids normally sport skin with a greenish-tinge. (ENT: "These Are the Voyages...")
As pacifists, the Aenar avoided others by living underground in a city surrounded by a dampening field and avoid telepathic contact with others unless consent is given. When required, a de facto speaker will lead or talk on their behalf; otherwise, the Aenar do not typically have a leader.
Andorian myths surrounded the Aenar until 2104 when first official contact was made. Diplomatic ties with the Andorians remained open and transparent.
In 2154, the Romulan Star Empire kidnapped an Aenar, Gareb, to remotely pilot a Romulan drone-ship. Gareb's sister Jhamel helped the Enterprise destroy the ship. (ENT: "United", "The Aenar")
