History

Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth President of the United States. He successfully led the country through its greatest internal crisis, the American Civil War, saving the Union and ending slavery, only to be assassinated as the war was virtually over. Before becoming the first Republican elected to the Presidency, Lincoln was a lawyer, an Illinois state legislator, a member of the United States House of Representatives, and twice an unsuccessful candidate for election to the Senate.

On April 14th, 1865, President Lincoln attended the play Our American Cousin at Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C.. A confederate spy named John Wilkes Booth crept up behind the President and aimed a single-shot, round-slug 0.44 caliber Henry Deringer at his head, firing at point-blank range. The President was taken across the street from the theater to the Petersen House, where he lay in a coma for nine hours before dying.

Lincoln in a Sesame Street cartoon

Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) was the sixteenth President of the United States, particularly noted for his leadership during the Civil War, delivery of the Gettysburg Address, and the Emancipation Proclamation. Nicknamed "Honest Abe," the lanky bearded politician was a controversial figure in his own time, but has since been recognized as one of the greatest presidents, ranked with George Washington. A key factor in this was not only Lincoln's statesmanship and opposition to slavery, but his assassination on April 14, 1865, days after the Southern forces surrendered. Lincoln thus became the first American president to be assassinated (but not the last, as witness John F. Kennedy) and the fourth to die in office. His image adorns the five dollar bill and the penny.

The figure of Lincoln has been represented in Muppet form on several occasions, or portrayed by other characters.

  • In I Love Liberty, Miss Piggy makes repeated attempts to gain a role in the Muppets 1776-style historical play. Rebuffed in her aguise as Washington, she re-appears in stovepipe hat and beard as Abraham Lincoln, quoting the Gettysburg Address: "Ahem! Four score and seven years ago, our fathers brought forth upon this --" Kermit interrupts: "Piggy! You're four score and seven years too early for this play!" He pushes her out the door again.
  • Muppets Tonight episode 206 featured Robot Abraham Lincoln (played by Jerry Nelson), a robotic version of Honest Abe as built by Dr. Bunsen Honeydew. At one point, the machine stammers "Our forefathers.. our forefathers..," repeating a phrase from the Gettysburg Address.

Transformers

From Teletraan I: The Transformers Wiki

If he'd had more time, he could have used the Kennedy Memorial to roast marshmallows.

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States. He had the personality of an Optimus Prime.[1] After his death, he was immortalized in limestone and marble with the Lincoln Memorial.

Megatron ripped the statue out of its chair so he could sit there.

Ratchet and Ironhide put it back together. No harm done. Atlantis, Arise!

He is probably the namesake of Lincoln, Nebraska.

In Transformers: The Game, the end scene for the Decepticon story shows Megatron having decimated the Earth, and leaving nothing left of the Lincoln statue except it's head, and took the throne for himself.
