Early life and career

Born in Melbourne, Australia on May 11 1983, Abbey moved to the United Kingdom at the age of 17 following the deaths of her parents in quick succession: her mother dying of lung cancer in late 1998, and her father in a car crash seven months later. Following her arrival in the UK, Abbey rented a dilapidated apartment in a rough area of Bristol, and worked several low-paid and menial jobs in order to make ends meet.

Whilst working she also attended a local evening school where she studied on a secretarial course. Also attending the evening school at that time was wannabe "entrepreneur", Toby Cameron, who was studying on a business course, who Abbey soon befriended and began dating within weeks.

Following the successful completion of her secretarial course, Abbey was employed as a low-level secretary in several organizations, including a dentists and a "shady law firm in Barnstaple". In late 2008, she was made redundant from her post as personal assistant to a top executive of a nationwide department store following its collapse during the "credit crunch". Shortly after, she sent off her curriculum vitae to the Pharos Project advertising her services as a PA, and she was soon hired by Professor Dennis Mortimer. (The Exiles)

Personal life

Interests and hobbies

Music

Abbey was a late comer to music, never really developing a keen interest in bands and festivals until her teen years and her move to the United Kingdom and the start of her relationship with Toby Cameron. Together they attended numerous festivals and gatherings including the famous Glastonbury Festival and V Festival. Amongst her favourite bands were Oasis, Scissor Sisters, The Kooks, The Hoosiers and The Feeling; all of which she has seen live at various events. ("The Exiles", "Blame it on the Weatherman")

As well as attending musical festivals, Abbey's iPod is never far away from her and is constantly loaded with her top five-hundred songs. During her travels with Mortimus, her iPod often drew curiosity from various alien cultures that they encountered or when travelling into Earth's past. ("And Death Shall Have No Dominion", "Brief Encounters")

Sports

When it came to organized sports, Abbey was particularly gifted and became exceptional at playing high-energy games such as basketball, volleyball or beachball. Abbey was particularly fond of playing beachball as it reminded her of holidays to the beach back home in Australia where her and her father would play for hours until the sun went down. She was disappointed that she didn't have the opportunity to play much after emigrating to the United Kingdom, but later had the chance to play the game during her travels with Mortimus, when his TARDIS landed on Ghenlov Beta. ("Blame it on the Weatherman")

Shortly after moving the the United Kingdom, Abbey began learning aikido as a form of self-defence after she was attacked travelling home to Bristol after one of her evening classes. Although, she had never had to use her skills to see of attackers, the threat of them had stopped several of her former bosses making any unwanted advances. ("The Exiles", "Helpline")
