We open on Gina, sitting at Hooper's Store doing her homework, listening to her headphones. David is unaware that Gina needs a job so she can earn some money to buy her mom a birthday present. Moreover, Gina is unaware that David needs help around the store, which is evident by the way he goes over everything he has to do today. Finally, he puts up a HELP WANTED sign.
Sign Cartoons: The man spells out the word HELP.

Ernie & Bert: The Count Sleeps Over At Ernie & Bert's Part 1
The Count sleeps in Bert's bed while Bert sleeps on the couch. Ernie tells The Count that he can count sheep to get to sleep, but it never dawned on Ernie that the Count never gets tired of counting. He stays up all night counting sheep, to Ernie's detriment.

Dressed in aviator attire, Meryl Sheep comes in to answer the HELP WANTED sign. She thinks working at Hooper's Store will be adventurous, enabling her to do such heroic things as sail the sea to catch tuna fish for sandwiches, or throw a rope down to Elmo if he falls into a cereal bowl. David explains that working at Hooper's doesn't involve such adventure, and she loses interest.

Oscar thinks he can help David, but David is suspicious. Oscar then demonstrates his "Upside-down Surprise": a pan with some pickles, sardines and whipped cream, which David thinks Oscar is going to turn upside down, resulting in a tug-of-war argument between them, topped off with a big SPLAT!
David is frustrated that no one has given him any help so far today. Gina almost pops the job question to David, but he has to run off to clean his shirt.

Ferlinghetti Donizetti delivers "the easy rhythm Rappin' Alphabet" while Grover displays his super smooth break-dance moves.

Ernie and Bert: Ernie is sad because it's raining and he can't play baseball. Bert encourages him to imagine that he's playing instead. In Ernie's imagination, he hits a high fly ball that lands in the ocean. Bert tells Ernie that the sun is out, and he can go out and play now. Ernie says that he can't play -- his ball fell in the ocean.

By now, Gina has had seven glasses of lemonade, which she pays for with the remainder of her allowance. As they lament about their plights, they come to the sudden realization that they needed each other all along! Gina is immediately ready to start working at Hooper's--right after she gets back from the bathroom.
An apple, an orange and a pear learn they can cooperate by rocking and rolling.

Old West: Clementine breaks the bad news to everyone: Bad Bart is coming to town to "give someone what they deserve"! She says he will come when the cow moos four times. They listen for it, and first hear a train toot four times, then a dog bark four times, and finally the cow. Bad Bart steps into the saloon, looks for the bartender, and reminds him that last week, he ordered sarsaparilla, but the bartender didn't have it, so he went to another town to get it, and kept him waiting. Bad Bart forgot to pay the bartender for it, so he gives the bartender what he deserves: some coins.
