• BBV: Republica, BBV: Island of Lost Souls, and BBV: Prosperity Island, the first episodes in a new audio drama series called The Time Travellers (also known as Audio Adventures in Time and Space) are first released. The series stars Sylvester McCoy as "The Professor" and Sophie Aldred as "Ace" (later, the characters would be more explicitly separated from their TV counterparts).
• 04 - EDA: Dreamstone Moon is first published.
  • PDA: Catastrophea is first published.
• 10 - Robert Jewell, who operated Daleks in several episodes of Doctor Who as well as in both of the Dalek films starring Peter Cushing, dies in Melbourne, Australia.
• Dance instrumentalist Jack Mackrel releases a 3-track EP on Template Records called Tardis. The three tracks are built around, or suggested by the TARDIS dematerialization sound effect.

• BFBS: Oh No it Isn't, a dramatized audio adaptation of the 1997 novel of the same title, is released by Big Finish Productions. This was the first of a series of Bernice Summerfield audio dramas to be produced by Big Finish, and was also the production company's first official production related to the Doctor Who franchise; a year later, the company would begin publishing dramas with a more direct connection to the TV series, and continue a prolific slate of productions into 2009. Many of those involved in these ventures would go on to write or perform for Doctor Who when it returns to TV in 2005.
• BBV: The Other Side is first released. Second of two "Professor-lite" episodes of The Time Travellers series.
• 07 - EDA: The Scarlet Empress is first published.
  • PDA: Last Man Running is first published.
• 10 - Carl Forgione, who appeared as Land in DW: Planet of the Spiders and Nimrod in DW: Ghost Light, dies from cancer.

Events

A tour group at the Las Vegas Hilton is brought forward in time to the 24th century by the U.S.S. Enterprise-D. They are later returned via shuttlecraft and a dogfight with a Klingon Bird of Prey ensues. Nellis Air Force Base dismisses the event as "weather baloons." [1]

This is a list of events that happened in 1998:

• The game DeviousMUD is made by Andrew Gower and Paul Gower. This was originally the first version of RuneScape, but it was never released to the public. It had several of the main RuneScape features, including Attack (the game may or may not have been PvP at that time, only one player ever played it), trade, and talk-to, all via a row of buttons at the botton of the screen. It was later released to the public for a few weeks in March 1999.
