March

DWN: Doctor Who - Kinda is first published. This is the last fully photographic Peter Davison cover.

April

  • 15 - Magician and comic Tommy Cooper, who at one point was considered a contender to play the Doctor, suffers a heart attack during a live TV performance and dies backstage.
  • 22 - Michelle Ryan born.

May

  • 03 - DWN: Doctor Who - Snakedance is first published. With this release, Target Books returns to using artistic covers, although for this and the next Fifth Doctor novelisation, a modified series logo incorporating a photograph of Peter Davison is utilized.
  • 15 - Tom Baker guest stars in the American TV series, Remington Steele, in the episode "Hounded Steele".
  • 24 - DWN: Doctor Who - Enlightenment is first published. A rare occasion where more than one novelisation has been published at different times within the same calendar month. Second and last use of the modified logo-and-photo branding for a Fifth Doctor novelisation, and the final use of a photographic element on a Doctor Who fiction book until the 1988 novelisation of DWN: Time and the Rani. As Target was not allowed to feature artistic renderings of Peter Davison at the time, this was the last appearance of an image of the Fifth Doctor on a new novelisation, although Target would finally be allowed to feature drawings of Davison when it issued new editions of many of its novelisations in the early 1990s. Target subsequently chose not to include images of the Sixth Doctor on initial releases of any of that era's novelisations; therefore, an image of the current Doctor would not appear again on the cover of a newly issued Target novelisation until DWN: Paradise Towers was published in December 1988.

Events

  • Khan Noonien Singh barely escapes the bloody riots in Delhi after the assassination of Indira Ghandi; he is saved by Gary Seven, who, after having saved him 10 years earlier from the Chrysalis Project, has watched him, hoping that he could join his covert operations one day.[1]
  • Later that year, Seven and Khan travel to the South Pole on a hint from Guinan, tracking down Dr. Wilson Evergreen who has found a method to fix the ocone hole. At Seven's request, Evergreen leaves the hole as it is; it is revealed that Evergreen is immortal. During the mission, Seven realises that Khan is too violent to form part of his team[1]
  • When returning to India, Seven and Khan witness how thousands run away from the poison gas following the chemical leak in Bhopal. Khan decides that such accidents should not happen, and begins to form his vision for the future (and also adapts the name "Khan")[1]
