  • 4th August - The First World War broke out. Albert Tatlock and his friends Dinky Low and Clarrie Ross joined the Lancashire Fusiliers as soon as war was declared, trained at Bury and left in late 1915 for France where Clarrie was killed at the Battle of the Somme in 1916.
  • 25th October - After the outbreak of the First World War, Cedric and Lottie Thwaite of the Corner Shop were attacked and injured by their neighbours because Lottie was German.

  • French archaeologists discover a Krivani interstellar drive. With the help of a German spy, the Doctor and Ace retrieve it from British agents. (ST: Ante Bellum)
  • 28 - The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary triggers a series of events that rapidly escalate into Earth's first global conflict, World War I. Unknown to the general populace, however, the start of the war was in fact influenced by Nemesis (DW: Silver Nemesis). Active warfare would continue until November 1918, with a formal peace treaty ending the war being signed on June 28, 1919, the fifth anniversary of the assassination.
